Isolated dislocation of the trapezium.

چکیده
A 31-year-old housewife attended the Accident and Emergency Department of the Mater Infirmorum Hospital, Belfast, Northern Ireland, having fallen and injured her left wrist. She had fallen backwards onto her outstretched hand, forcing the wrist into considerable dorsi-flexion with the forearm in supination. Examination revealed bruising and swelling at the base of the first metacarpal and over the thenar eminence. Movements of the thumb were painful. X-rays (Fig. 1) showed that the trapezium had been completely dislocated in a palmar direction. No fracture of surrounding bones had occurred. On the following morning closed reduction was carried out successfully, with the aid of an image intensifier. The hand and forearm were immobilized in a Bennet's type plaster cast which was removed after 6 weeks. Initially, movements of the thumb were somewhat stiff but the situation improved rapidly, and she was able to be discharged with a full range of pain-free movement and no continuing disability a few weeks later.

Case Report Traumatic Isolated Trapezium Dislocation without Fracture: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Isolated dislocation of the trapezium is an uncommon injury. There are sixteen cases to date reported in the literature. The management of these cases has varied from complete excision to open or closed reduction, with or without percutaneous wiring. This paper presents a case of an isolated dislocation of the trapezium without fracture, managed with closed reduction and percutaneous wiring, re...

Introduction: Bennett’s fracture-dislocation is an intraarticular injury of the first metacorpal, usually treated by closed(non-surgical) methods. Fractures of the trapezium are among the rare wrist injuries. Simultaneous occurrence of these two injuries is a very rare entity. Case Report: A young man who had fallen down a motorcycle was referred with right Bennett’s fracture -dislocation a...
متن کاملMultiple carpometacarpal dislocations and an ipsilateral scapho-trapezium-trapezoid fracture-dislocation: a rare pattern of injury.
We report a rare case of simultaneous dorsal dislocation of 4 ulnar carpometacarpal joints and dorsoradial dislocation of the trapezium with an associated fracture of the scaphoid tuberosity. The injuries were diagnosed early and treated successfully with closed reduction and transfixation using Kirschner wires. The functional results were excellent at 17-month follow-up.
متن کاملComminuted Fracture of the Body of the Trapezium and Thumb Carpometacarpal Dislocation: A Particular Pattern
Trapezium fractures are uncommon injuries. Our case is that of a thumb carpometacarpal joint dislocation associated to a partly comminuted fracture of the body of the trapezium. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this particular variation has not been previously reported in the indexed literature.
متن کاملIsolated thumb carpometacarpal joint dislocation: a case report and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Isolated thumb carpometacarpal dislocation is a rare injury pattern and the optimal treatment option is still controversial. CASE DESCRIPTION We present a 27-year-old basketball player who underwent an isolated dorsal dislocation of the thumb carpometacarpal joint after a fall. The dislocation was successfully reduced by closed means but the joint was found to be grossly unstable. ...
